About Presa's
The breed is courageous and agile enabling him to do the work he was initially bred for: to drive and hold cattle as well as to protect his home and family. The Presa is also very affectionate, calm, docile, subdued, devoted, loyal and eager to please in the home and with his family. He is, however, suspicious of strangers and known to be aggressive with other dogs. Presas make outstanding guard dogs requiring early socialization and obedience training.
Trainability
We have found our dogs to be intelligent & eager to learn. Due to its temperament the Presa Canario require's a firm owner who is willing and able to meet the challenges a young, dominant puppy may pose. The breed is not traditionally suited for protection sports but is gaining in popularity due to a small group of enthusiasts who have selected dogs based heavily on function. The Perro de Presa Canario is not recommended for the first-time dog owner.
